22 December 1992 — 14 August 2011
Sam wanted this to exist. He did not get to see it, so it is built in his name.
He was eighteen. He had finished at Hilton Head Preparatory School the year before and gone to Neumont University in Utah to study computer science, where he was already writing software professionally and tutoring the people around him. By every account of him, he was quiet about it — the kind of person whose ability you only found out about if you asked.
He was my partner, and Yarr.It was ours before it was anything. Everything here — the player, the search, the apps on every screen we could reach — is the idea we had together, finally finished.
This project is dedicated to keeping my promises.
I said I would build it. It took longer than it should have. It is here now.
Sam is survived by his mother Jenni, his father Bob, and his brother Nick. His obituary is in The Island Packet.
